A SMART Purchase!

I’m constantly asked by clients to design their children’s bedroom spaces.  Typically, clients initially only want to make so much of an investment in these spaces because their kids are going to grow up quickly and the parents know that they will replace the furniture before they know it.

I’ve never really been partial to the current selection out there because I think that it’s important to try and select pieces that will last longer, and that kids can continue to grow into those pieces over a certain amount of time.

I came across this bed (and trundle) from Pottery Barn Kids, and I think it’s a perfect example.  It’s stylized and sophisticated, yet functional for a child…but it’s also aesthetically apppropriate when making that transition from “kid” to “teenager.”

It’s currently covered in a stain resistant Acrylic Herringbone weave, which is great for kids…and when your child is ready for a room re-do, don’t replace all of the furniture…consider reupholstering the headboard and footboard!  Maybe an elegant (but casual) floral linen for a girl, or a chocolate velvet for a boy?!  And fast forward to college…If space is an issue or you need additional sleeping space, you now have an appropriate and well-designed space for guests!

A smart design by Pottery Barn Kids…and for the designer / client?  A SMART purchase!
